چکیده
Question: Is biphasic computed tomography (CT) with mesenteric CT angiography effective in diagnosing acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI)? Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: Two tertiary care centres in Canada. Patients: Sixty-two patients had clinically suspected AMI, with a finding of abdominal pain and at least 1 of the following symptoms: pain out of proportion to clinical findings; biochemical evidence of ischemia, namely, elevated lactate levels or unexpected metabolic acidosis; or patients’ risk factors for ischemia, such as previous ischemia or symptoms of chronic ischemia, severe vascular disease, atrial fibrillation without therapeutic anticoagulation, low flow (history of hypotension or vasopressor therapy) or hypercoagulable states. The patients consisted of 21 men (age range 32–87 [mean 60] yr) and 41 women (age range 32–87 [mean 65] yr). All patients were examined before CT angiography by a specialist (either a general or vascular surgeon or an internist). A case of acute type B aortic dissection: limited role of laboratory testing for the diagnosis of mesenteric ischemia.
A 30-year-old man with severe back and abdominal pain was referred to our hospital because of a recurrence of acute type B aortic dissection. A computed tomography scan showed a 3-channel dissection and a severe narrowing of the true lumen of the descending aorta to the abdominal aorta because of the expansion of the newly formed second false lumen. Although laboratory testing, including creati...

Objective: Acute mesenteric ischemia (IMA) is a vascular emergency with broad variability of clinical presentations and non-specific laboratory findings. Therefore, there is a significant need for reliable serological markers of ischemia. Various laboratory studies may be performed for suspected AMI, but in general, such studies will not establish the diagnosis.Me...

We report a case of acute type A dissection with ischemic enterocolitis due to blood flow insufficiency in the superior mesenteric artery. A 67 year-old man, with medicated ischemic heart disease and hypertension, presented to another hospital with chest pain radiating to the back and epigastrium. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a type A dissecting aneurysm, that extended from th...

INTRODUCTION Ischemic bowel disease comprises both mesenteric ischemia and colonic ischemia. Mesenteric ischemia can be divided into acute and chronic ischemia. These are two separate entities, each with their specific clinical presentation and diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. However, diagnosis may be difficult due to the vague symptomatology and subtle signs. CASE PRESENTATION We repo...

A 42-year-old man was admitted to another hospital complaining of acute abdominal pain that was induced by eating. Abdominal computed tomography and selective angiography revealed an intimal flap separating true and false lumens that was located 3 cm from the origin of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA). Emergency surgery was performed because of the sudden recurrence of diffuse abdominal pai...
